Description: Through their interactions with researchers and consumers, librarians are shaping and driving change in publishing and scholarly communication. Like pebbles in a pond, their actions create ripples far beyond their individual institutions. In this webinar, a panel of speakers will highlight ways in which libraries are increasingly taking the lead in the production, curation, discovery, and aggregation of content and its dissemination.
Our opening speaker will give an overview of the latest news and trends surrounding libraries as publishers and facilitators of research dissemination in the “open” era, including successes achieved and challenges faced by librarians in these roles. Then we’ll hear about new developments in the OER landscape and how OERs can help address the problem of affordability for course materials for students. Finally, our third speaker will present new and sustainable OA publishing models for open access cooperatives as well as success stories from journals that have transitioned to alternative publishing models.
